Here are pictures of the location where Trash The Dress will be playing. I choose this location because it is creepy and cramped and works with the ghoul theme.

New Life Documentary

For my 4th project, I am going to talk to the pastor of New Life Church. I play in the worship band their and have been their many times growing up. I would like to make a short informative documentary about the history of the church and how it came to be. The plan is that it will be able to be embedded in the "About New Life" section of their website for people to view in order to gain a perspective of the church background. There have been many events, changes, and challenges that have taken place with the church that the documentary should keep it's viewers interest. As well, I should have access to the content that I need to properly produce the documentary.

Rick's Encounters

These are ideas I have for Rick's encounter's with the world in the "My Best Days" music video.

- waking up to alarm clock
- Rick turns towards camera (audience knows he's a ghoul)
- walking through town
- passes a shop with "GHOUL FACED NEED NOT APPLY" sign
- encounters kids who shoot him with nerf guns
- dogs who are mean that bark at him
- a girl in a coffee shop who gives him strange/akward looks

Pitch Black

My second project is titled Pitch Black. As opposed to Picture Perfect which is based on the idea of optimism, Pitch Black is based on the idea of pessimism. It will have a similar sound and structure as Picture Perfect, but with a very different feel and energy. It will be the story of what is likely the most tragic  incidence in the history of America's space program. Pitch Black is it's own work, but it is also able to be pared and compared with Picture Perfect adding a new dimension to both.

After talking with Trash The Dress we've decided to make a music video for their song "My Best Days" which will be released in March. The video will follow the character Rick (the ghoul-face) and go through a day in his life. People do not like Rick because he is a ghoul-face and his life is a bit depressing. In between shots of Rick will also be shots of the band playing in a yet-to-be-determind room. At the end of the video Rick finds another group of ghoul-faces were he is accepted and happy.

Trash The Dress - Video Update 2013

Last year I made a short "rockumentary" for a band called Trash The Dress. This year I hope to make another one. The band is about to release their first full length record and it is going to be very exciting. On top of that, I have a chance to show how much I've improved since last year.

Artist Statement

Picture Perfect

            Picture Perfect all started with the idea of optimism. It is a classic tale of an adventurer and his journey to an untamed and foreign land. A person’s first time into any endeavor has a special kind of optimism and nervousness that I feel does not get replicated in later attempts. For this reason, I wanted to use audio pieces from the United States’ initial journey to the moon. The quality of audio recording in the 1960’s was much lower than in recent times, but this roughness is necessary for authenticity. The backing music for the audio pieces is an upbeat post-rock song composed using a three act structure like would be found in any typical story.

 There are some that think that the mission to space was a hoax. This is represented by the children pictured on the cover artwork. It may be that the moon landing was nothing more than a cleverly demonstrated fair-tale. Still, the ideas that came from it have inspired and will continue to inspire, as if it were the invention of imagination during a child’s playtime.

I believe our journey to space is one of the most, if not the most inspiring adventures of all human history.

Album Artwork

Here is a simple album cover I made. I chose the picture of the children to represent the views of skeptics, and to propose that the whole thing may be nothing more than a child's dream. Still, the idea of children also goes along with the theme of optimism.

Inspiration Part 2

Since I am focusing on the first mission to space, I checked out this video. I would like to find a way to implement the "beeps" from the radio headsets.

The instrument that I know and understand the best is guitar. I feel like this band does a really nice job of capturing a "space-like" sound using guitars. Good ideas for tone and effects.

John F. Kennedy - 1962

One of the most provocative and bold-faced examples of optimism in modern times is the space race. John F. Kennedy's 1962 speech at Rice Stadium will definitely play a role in this piece.

The basis of my concept is optimism. Gathering some dictionary definitions might be a generic way to go about things, but starting simple can be beneficial.

Picture Perfect

This is the concept for my first song called "Picture Perfect". It will consist of slightly distorted acoustic guitar, bass guitar, a driving drum beat, synthetic sounds, vocals and possibly some electric guitar. Inspired by bands such as Tears For Fears and Naked Eyes. Recorded in Audacity. 139 bpm. 

Inspiration

I've decided I am going to put together a short electronic EP, possibly using a program called Mixcraft 6. Today my professor let me borrow some CD's to listen to for inspiration.
